FIFA rates Nigeria as third worst football Developing Country

Nigeria's self-proclaimed development in football has been slammed by FIFA which ranks the country as the third worst soccer developing nation in the world.

The ratings were conducted at the annual CAF Technical Committee Congress in Seychelles in August and it was in sharp contrast to the series of commendations that the Nigeria Football Federation has been receiving for its developmental programmes.

"We were in Seychelles for the annual technical committee meeting of CAF and Nigeria was rated one of the worst three countries in terms of football development," NFF Technical Committee member, Adegboye Onigbinde, said Thursday.

Not many would disagree with this verdict with Nigeria failing to qualify for the 2012 Africa Nations Cup in addition to the country's non-qualification for the football event of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The country's men and women teams also failed to qualify for the 2011 All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique.

  1. That was a short but really informative article. And if i was to voice my opinion i would totally agree with this because Nigeria soccer keeps depleting every year and that's really sad. We have players playing for good teams all over the world so it's not like we don't have good players it's just that there is no sync. They don't act like a team and they are all pretty cocky and want to prove that they are better than everyone else on their own team. Even the governing body in charge of soccer in Nigeria isn't even putting in any effort in an attempt to try and revive soccer in the country. They don't pay the players so the players cannot play at their best, Anyone that wants to play good soccer knows they can't get it in Nigeria and they have to go to another country to get it. We have a long way to go and it will take a lot of money (used properly not spent)to once again become a team to be reckoned with in soccer.
